Election year so far……

I have come into this election year with a clean slate. No political affiliations, no pre-conceptions (ok, maybe a few) and no idea who I am going to vote for. So I am utilizing social media to help make my decisions and communicate with the politicians.

First off, I had high hopes for Cunliffe. I thought he was going to shine this election year and really take it to Key. What a disappointment so far. As a seasoned politician I would have thought he was above making the mistakes he has (paid parenting, trust funds etc). He is making it easy for the Government.

Now of course National MPsĀ are utilizing Twitter to create unease in his leadership (Collins and Hanare) and Shane Jones is making it easy for them by grabbing the populist limelight (even taking a leaf out of Winston’s manual with a blast about foreign students).

So where does that leave Key? Pulling bloody derp faces and taking selfies. He’s also popping up in successful NZ teams changing rooms and generally ensuring we keep seeing his positive happy image. Clever stuff.

The fringe parties remain so. However the Greens are the one party releasing and talking up policies that are economically and environmentally sound. This is a surprising turn of events. National have long dubbed them the ‘crazy greens’, yet they are considering going into government with a guy who refuses to admit we landed on the moon.

As for ACT, it will take more than Mad Dog Prebble to rejuvenate the party, especially when their new leader admits that he thinks incest should not be a crime.

Winston? Oh really, who cares? I am generation X so he will be long gone before I am old enough to be conned by that rogue.

So where am I at? Still very much undecided.
